============================================================== TalkWorks PRO 3.0 Symantec Corporation Release Notes July 1999 ============================================================== The following information reflects recent changes made to the product. We recommend you review this document before you install and use TalkWorks. ============================================================== INSTALLATION NOTES ============================================================== This section describes known issues that you may encounter when installing TalkWorks. Installing TalkWorks with NAV 5.0 Auto-Protect enabled: ====================================================== The "scan all files" option enabled in NAV 5.0's Auto-Protect feature may hinder the complete installation of WinFax/TalkWorks. To ensure a complete install, simply change the option to scan "Program files" only. Upgrading from WinFax PRO 8.x to TalkWorks PRO 3.0 ================================================== When you upgrade from WinFax PRO 8.x to TalkWorks PRO 3.0, you will lose your pager settings. Take note of your settings before upgrading, then reset them following installation. Upgrading from TalkWorks 2.0 to TalkWorks PRO 3.0 ================================================== If you previously had a multi-level answering system (multi-level profile) set up in TalkWorks 2.0, all sub-levels (sub-profiles) in that system will be converted to separate answering systems during the update migration process. ============================================================== MESSAGE SHARING ISSUES ============================================================== To use the Message Sharing feature, we recommend that you have the most recent version of DCOM98 installed on your computer. This will ensure that all Message Sharing features function smoothly. To download the latest version of DCOM98, visit the Microsoft Web site at: http://www.microsoft.com/Com/resources/downloads.asp This is required ONLY if you want to run TalkWorks PRO in Message Sharing mode. When the Message Sharing option is enabled, you must have the same date, time, and location settings on both the host and the client computers. Additionally, the dial as entered location should not be used when configuring the Message Sharing host, as this may incorrectly assemble phone numbers sent from the Message Sharing client. When running in Message Sharing mode, you must be running the same language versions of your operating system on both the host and the client computers. When running in Message Sharing mode, a mixture of double-byte character (DBCS) and single-byte character (SBCS) systems may not be used. Both the host and client machines must be using the same type of character system. Dial-Up NetWorking in Windows 95 ================================================================= If you use the Message Sharing feature and you also connect to the Internet using your modem (via a dial-up connection), you are prompted to connect to the Internet each time you start TalkWorks/WinFax. Quick Fix: When prompted, click Cancel, as you do not need to connect to the Internet to use TalkWorks/WinFax. There are two ways to handle this situation on an ongoing basis: A You can click Cancel each time this dialog appears (as mentioned above). This option is best suited to those who connect to the Internet more frequently than they use TalkWorks/WinFax, or for those who cannot change their Internet connection method because of corporate standards. B You can change your Internet connection method to the network option so that this dialog does not appear when you start TalkWorks/WinFax. When you next want to connect to the Internet, you must then change your connection method back to the modem option. If you want to use Option B, do the following: 1 Click the Windows Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2 Double click "Internet". 3 Click the Connection tab. 4 Do one of the following: - If you have Internet Explorer 4.0 installed: Enable Connect To The Internet Using A Local Area Network. - If you do not have Internet Explorer 4.0 installed: Disable Connect To The Internet As Needed. 5 Click Apply. ============================================================== CALLER ID SCREEN POP ISSUES ============================================================== If you have enabled the Caller ID Screen Pop feature, and you have your location dialing configuration set as "Dial as Entered", or dialing set to "Windows (TAPI) dialing", you must enter the Define Location information as instructed on the Caller ID Screen Pop dialog. ============================================================== MODEM ISSUES ============================================================== Voice Modem Compatibility =========================== Some modems do not support all the voice features available in TalkWorks PRO. In some cases, this problem may be corrected by obtaining the latest driver updates from the modem manufacturer. For a list of compatible modems, see the "TalkWorks Recommended Modem List" on the Symantec Web site: In North America - http://www.symantec.com/talkworks/tw_modems.html Outside of North America - http://www.symantec.com PCTel chipset ============= Voice modems with a PCTel chipset are not supported by TalkWorks at this time. You can however use these modems for faxing. Archtek SmartLink ConferencePal 3334BTV modems ============================================== These modems may experience problems detecting dial tones when attempting to place calls on the TalkWorks PRO Telephone. To prevent "No dial tone" errors, start Program Setup, double click Telephone, and then disable Wait For Dial Tone Before Dialing. IBM MWAVE modems ================ IBM MWAVE modems are not supported by TalkWorks PRO for voice functionality. You can however use these modems for faxing. 3Com US Robotics modems ======================= If you install your USR modem in Windows as a "Standard modem", Windows will send the wrong TAPI commands to the modem, causing errors. To avoid this, install your USR modem using the USR-supplied INF file. Remote retrieval in Class 2.0 using 3COM USRobotics modems ========================================================== When using some 3COM USRobotics modems installed in Class 2.0, remote retrieval of faxes might cause the modem to hang. To resolve this issue, change the modem to Class 1 in Program Setup. PBX Systems =========== Some PBX (Private Branch Exchange) systems do not support the Call Forward Mailbox feature. Please consult your PBX system administrator for more information. ============================================================== MICROSOFT EXCHANGE/OUTLOOK ISSUES ============================================================== Upgrading from WinFax Starter Edition ===================================== If you upgraded to TalkWorks PRO 3.0 from the WinFax Starter Edition, when you receive a new email message you may not be able to click on any options on that email, and you may get an "out of memory" error. If this happens, close the message and, on the Outlook Tools menu, click Accounts. Then set another email account as the Default. ============================================================== LOTUS NOTES/cc:MAIL ISSUES ============================================================== If you install Lotus Notes after installing TalkWorks PRO, you must edit your autoexec.bat file to contain the path location in which you have installed Lotus Notes. For example: "path=%path%;c:notes" where "c:" is the installation location If running Lotus Notes with TalkWorks PRO, your TalkWorks email login may fail if you use a login name containing double-byte (DBCS) characters. If running Lotus Notes with TalkWorks PRO, your TalkWorks email functionality may fail if Lotus Notes is installed in a directory containing double-byte (DBCS) characters, or if your Lotus Notes ID contains double-byte characters. If running cc:Mail with TalkWorks PRO, text entered into the body of an email message containing double-byte (DBCS) characters may be illegible to the receiver. ============================================================== AOL ISSUES ============================================================== If you install TalkWorks PRO and you use AOL 3.0 or AOL 4.0 Preview Edition in Windows 95, you will experience problems using the AOL internal browser. To resolve this issue, upgrade to AOL 4.0 or use another browser (for example Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer) to access the Internet. ============================================================== WINDOWS NT ISSUES ============================================================== WinFax NT Service answers all calls =================================== By default, the WinFax NT Service is set to Automatic and loads when NT starts. This allows WinFax to answer calls before you log into NT. (The WinFax NT Service intercepts all calls.) To avoid possible conflicts with Remote Access Service and other services that rely on the modem, set the WinFax NT Service to Manual or configure Call Discrimination. Receiving calls while logged out of NT ====================================== TalkWorks PRO allows you to receive both voice and fax calls without being logged into Windows NT. Note that all voice calls received while logged out of NT will be normalized when you log into the operating system. The normalization process occupies your system until it is complete. Notification and Fax Forwarding Rules ===================================== Notification and Fax Forwarding rules will only be applied to new calls after you log into Windows NT.
